Funeral service for Paul E. Hiers, 82, will be held 3 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2011, at Salem United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is in charge.
Mr. Hiers died October 3, 2011. Born June 3, 1929, in Ehrhardt, SC he was the son of the late Julius Leroy and Esther Holmes Hiers. He was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1950, and retired from the SC Budget and Control Board. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Mid-Carolina Golf Club and Salem U.M.C. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, and playing guitar and harmonica.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Pike Hiers of the home; sons, Rickey Stephen Hiers (Jean) of Lexington, Christopher Paul Hiers of Waxhaw, N.C.; grandchildren, Hunter Reed Hiers, Jolie Emerson Hiers and Griffin Patrick Hiers.

I will miss my golfing and fishing buddy. He was like a brother to me. You are all in my prayers and thoughts. May the Lord Bless and comfort you in this sad time. I will always cherish the good times we had.

I think I worked briefly with Paul at the "machine room" at Charleston AF Base in 1958. I was retraining into Data Processing. I didn't work directly with him, But with Bob Buik, second Shift processing Supply. Joe Barnes was in Charge. Remember some of the Military, The Civilians moved on.
Sounds as if Paul had a wonderful career. Am saddened at his passing, especially since he was younger than me.
